I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite sandwiches from Subway is the Meatball Marinara. When I saw a recipe for meatballs, I got excited because I had never thought about making my own sub. After changing up the recipe for the meatballs, (I basically just “Italian-ized” them) I came up with a delicious alternative to going out to eat! Here’s how!
1 lb ground beef
1 egg white, whisked
About 1/3 cup of crushed saltine crackers
2 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves
1/2 jar marinara sauce
1 cup Italian-blend shredded cheese
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Stir together the top six ingredients until well blended. Using your hands, form the meatballs from the mixture. They should be about the size of a golf ball, maybe a little bigger. Place them on a lightly sprayed cookie sheet that has a lip on it. Bake for 20 minutes!
I warm the marinara sauce in the microwave and pour the desired amount over our individual sandwiches because we all like different amounts. I have also refrained from pouring it over the meatballs for the last of the baking process so that the grease didn’t get mixed in. Once you have the meatballs and sauce in your bread, top with the shredded cheese! Enjoy!
