Easter Dresses: They’re Not Just for Little Girls! | Top Spring 2012 Dress Trends

March 19th, 2012

Easter 2012 is less than a month away, and the vast majority of us celebrate it in some fashion. Whether that includes Church, brunch, a family get-together, and/or Easter egg hunts, you’ll want to look your best. From the time we were little girls – babies, even – Easter fashion typically included an “Easter dress”. That doesn’t have to stop just because we’re getting older. No one is saying it has to be frilly and floral, or even pastel colors, but Easter can be the perfect excuse to get a new dress!

There are some great trends this spring, and they can very easily be applied to dresses. I’ll be covering the top three spring clothing trends – brights, colorblocking, and the maxi dress – and how you can easily apply one (or all!) of these to your Easter-look and beyond.

Brights

The bright trend can be somewhat overwhelming for some, but it’s very easy to play into this trend without going over the top. If you are more of a modest dresser – usually sticking to black, white, and other neutrals – you can easily take part in the bright trend by simply adding brightly colored accessories. For example, this two-fer dress from Loft is the perfect example. It’s simple, feminine, and easily “trendable” by adding a skinny, brightly colored belt like this one from JC Penney. Just adding one splash of brightness to this pretty-but-otherwise-simple black and white dress shows that you are chic and bold, all at the same time.

Bonus: This belt is also on trend for this coming fall/winter fashion season. Patent leathers have been seen all over the runways in New York, Milan, and Paris. So, not only is this particular belt inexpensive, but you can use it to be trendy clear through the rest of the year, and possibly further.

Colorblocking

Colorblocking has been trendy for a few seasons already, and there’s no end in sight, at least in the near future. This trend has already been widely accepted, but more and more women are taking their shot at it. Because of this, stores are continuing to bring in the product. Luckily for us, this includes dresses!

Calvin Klein has a great, sleeveless, colorblocked dress available at Macy’s. It is black and off-white and comes with a skinny black leather belt. The placement of the off-white panel gives the dress a wrapped look. Since the dress already comes with a belt and has a high neckline, the only needed accessory may be a bracelet. As for shoes, some great black or nude pumps would suit this sophisticated dress perfectly.

Maxi Dresses

Lastly, the maxi dress. This trend has been around for a while, too, but has made its way back into stores this spring, as well. These super long dresses are flattering for nearly every body type, which is one reason I think they’ve been so popular. For this Easter, a great maxi dress is this halter maxi from Maggy London. This deep blue dress is loose-fitting with an elastic waist, complimented with a simple, pretty bow.

I hope that I have given you some great, usable ideas on how to look stunning and on trend for this Easter and clear through the rest of the spring and summer seasons. What will you be wearing this Easter? Discuss below.
